Note: The colour shades shown are a true likeness of the original, after application onto Oak. However, some variation may occur due to screen brightness and uploading processes. It is advisable to test colours on a small sample, as colour may appear differently on other wood species.
Mixing 2K Wood Oil
2K Wood Oil is a two-component product that must be mixed with its hardener before use. The hardener quantity is pre-measured in the 375 mL and 1 L cans—simply pour it into the hardwax-oil and stir thoroughly.
Custom colours can be created using our colour recipes as a guide, or through your own experimentation. Visit the Custom Mixing tab to learn more.
Before applying any Osmo finish, proper sanding is essential. For step-by-step guidance and expert tips on preparing flooring, furniture, and exterior wood, visit our Sanding Preparation page.
1. Shortly before application, mix the hardener and the oil together (mixing ratio 1:8 vol.%) ensuring both components are thoroughly combined. Do not thin.
Important: Once the hardener and hardwax oil have been mixed together, the product lasts for 3-4 hours. After this time, the product must be disposed of in accordance with local chemical waste disposal regulations.
2. With an Osmo Double Blade Trowel, distribute 2K Wood Oil across the surface. On chamfered flooring, apply 2K Wood Oil in sections thinly with Osmo Microfibre Roller, without filling the joints.
3. Wait approx. 20-40 minutes for the oil to penetrate into the wood.
4. Buff oil into the wood and even out the surface with a single disc machine with a white pad. For furniture use the Hand Applicator and white pad.
Note: If the white pad leaves streaks due to too much product being applied, we recommend replacing the pad and continuing to buff with a new pad until streaks have disappeared.
5. Drying time 12-24 hours with hardener (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/50 % rel. humidity) or 24 hours without hardener. Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can affect drying time. Ensure space is well ventilated.
To prevent a possible pressure build-up in the container, allow the oil and hardener mixtures to completely react before closing the lid (approx. 12-16 hrs).
Cure Period: Osmo Polyx-Oil(s) like all finishes have a cure period. We recommend allowing 6 days for the surface to fully cure and harden prior to damp-mopping or placing rugs/mats on the surface.
You can use our Colour Recipes on the website or you can experiment with your own creations. 2K Wood Oil needs 8 parts hardwax-oil and one part hardener. Watch this video on Custom Mixing for more guidance.
