TopOil

Food-Safe Hardwax Oil for Countertops
Osmo TopOil High Solid is a food-safe, certified hardwax-oil wood finish designed to protect and enhance natural wood countertops, tables, and furniture. Made from plant-based oils and natural waxes, it penetrates deeply into the wood to create an extremely durable, water-repellent, and dirt-resistant surface.
Every day spills from wine, coffee, tea, milk, and juice simply bead on the surface – no stains, no watermarks. Just wipe clean with a cloth and enjoy a smooth, natural wood finish that’s both protective and easy to clean.
Recommended for: Kitchen Countertops, butcher blocks, tabletops, chopping boards, and children’s toys (EN 71.3).
Why Choose a Food-Safe Hardwax Oil for Countertops?
Unlike polyurethane or film-forming finishes, hardwax oils like Osmo TopOil High Solid soak into the wood and cure within the fibers, offering natural, breathable protection. This creates a non-toxic, food-safe surface that won’t crack, peel, or blister—even in humid kitchens.
TopOil has been independently certified as food-safe, chemically resistant, and contains well below the limits of leachable heavy metals, making it safe for use on children’s toys.

Application Methods
Different species of wood require different amounts of product to achieve the highest durability and stain resistance. This is especially important for finishing high-traffic areas like flooring, stairs, countertops, and cutting boards.

Before applying any Osmo finish, proper sanding is essential. For step-by-step guidance and expert tips on preparing flooring, furniture, and exterior wood, visit our Sanding Preparation page.
Shake the finish well prior to use.
- Using the Osmo Brush, apply TopOil thinly and evenly in all directions across the wood surface.
- Allow approx 15 minutes for oils to penetrate.
- Brush along the grain, to distribute remaining product on the surface and to remove excess. There shouldn’t be a film or visible build-up on the finish on the surface. If this is observed, the product has been overapplied. Use a clean brush or a lint-free cloth to remove excess.
- Drying time approx. 8 – 10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 73°F / 50% rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can affect drying time. Ensure space is well ventilated.
Second Coat:
- Apply the second coat of TopOil thinly and evenly, in all directions across the wooden surface as before. Wait 15 minutes for the TopOil to penetrate and brush in/remove excess.
- Allow 8 – 10 hours drying time.

Cleaning And Maintenance Made Simple
Although extremely tough and highly durable, a hardwax-oil finish, like all others is not indestructible and does require maintenance over time. With periodic cleaning and maintenance, surfaces treated with Osmo can have the same beauty decades later.
