When do you recommend to use a base coat?

Osmo Wood Protector is recommended for woods prone to moisture, usually in bathrooms or kitchens. Although, this is not necessary for exotic woods.Osmo WR Base Coat is recommended for exterior softwoods such as Pine, Spruce etc. to impregnate the wood for increased protection.
